Maurin, Antoine (1793 Perpignan – 1860 Paris) (lith) / Prud’hon, Pierre-Paul (1758 Cluny – 1823 Paris) (ill): [Napoleon : ‚Le triomphe de Trajan‘] : Grossformatige allegorische Lithographie von Maurin nach Prud’hon, am Bildrand Künstlerbezeichnungen Prud’hon pinx. ; Maurin del. [Paris, rue de Vaugirard no 15], [chez Brunet / Imp. Litho. de Langlume], [1824]. Bildgröße 36 x 62 cm, alt montiert unter Passepartout 51 x 77 cm, geringe Bereibungen, schönes Exemplar, *Thieme/Becker XXIV, 282.– Antoine Maurin’s lithograph was inspired by a drawing Pierre-Paul Prud’hon exhibited at the 1801 Salon under the title ‚Le triomphe de Bonaparte, ou, La Paix‘ (The Triumph of Bonaparte, or Peace) depicting Napoleon riding on a chariot pulled by four horses and flanked by allegorical figures. While described as ’after Prud’hon’ when shown at the Salon of 1824, to circumvent the censors Napoleon was depicted in a Roman disguise, and the image was retitled ‚The Triumph of Trajan‘ (Getty Library LA)
