In 1995 the To-ji Temple, well known as general headquarters of the Shin-gon sect of Esoteric Buddhism and for its associations with Kobo Daishi (Priest Kukai), celebrated the 1200th anniversary of its founding (by Japanese reckoning). To mark the occasion, the Kyoto National Museum has organized this ‚Treasures from the To-ji Temple‘ exhibition, putting on display at one and the same time a large number of the priceless treasures handed down in the temple’s possession.–
